Research Fellow in Standards, policy & regulation for increasing circularity of Mineral-based Construction Materials

Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis post will be a joint post between the UCL Bartlett School for Energy, Environment & Sustainable Resources and UCL Faculty of Laws.The UKRI Interdisciplinary Circular Economy Centre on Mineral-based Construction Materials (ICEC-MCM) is part of five new centres that will explore how reusing waste materials in the textiles, construction, chemical and metal industries could deliver huge environmental benefits and boost the UK economy. ICEC-MCM will explore how better design and manufacturing of products and structures made from mineral materials to support the transition to a Circular Economy for construction materials in infrastructure.The post holder will undertake cross-disciplinary research around law/regulation and policy for increasing circularity of mineral-based construction materials. Analysis of potential regulatory instruments is required to develop a coherent framework that minimises trade-offs and exploits synergistic effects in the transition towards circularity of construction minerals.Duration of the post is available from 8 February 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter and is funded until December 2022 in the first instance.Key RequirementsThe post holder will have a PhD in a relevant field or a Masters degree with at least four years of experience in environmental law or relevant policy analysis. An understanding and experience in policy analysis (such as policy conclusions, policy recommendations and policy roadmaps) OR understanding and experience in waste law is essential. Excellent understanding and experience of application of quantitative and qualitative research methods is desirable together with experience elaboration of policy briefs and engagement with policy makers.Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (salary £31,542 - £33,257 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
